Great breakfast, excellent common area and a small onsite onsen - I recommend!
A very nice 3-star hotel with a free laundry, a spacious bathroom (certainly for Japanese hotels!) and a well-designed downstairs area. I liked being able to go downstairs and enjoy the live music being streamed from the "sister hotel", and the free welcome drink every evening was a lovely perk. I also loved that the hotel had an onsen onsite, although the female onsen was quite small and consisted of a single hot pool (while the male onsen had a hot pool, cold pool and a sauna). I'd recommend booking the buffet breakfast when you book the room - it was very good, with plenty of choices, but it tended to get sold out when we tried to book the night before.
The internet was shockingly bad! We barely had any internet in our room and it kept dropping out, despite a router in the corridor. It was so bad that I actually complained to the reception staff, but the response I got "Oh, too many people are using it right now." This wasn't the case - the internet was fine if I went downstairs to the common area, or even stood in the corridor. Please fix the internet!!

Good location for the price.
Good location and great breakfast option. Beds were comfortable and room was well appointed.
Not enough washing/drying facilities for the size of the hotel and the machines they did have couldn’t handle half a regular load. There also wasn’t much space in the room to keep suitcases let alone open them but we are finding this to be common throughout Japan.

Very nice communal facilities, close to Kyoto Station, some work needed on rest of hotel.
The hotel was in a very good location, approximately 8 minutes from Kyoto station where there were excellent dining options. There was also a 7/11 and a Family Mart within 2-5mins from the hotel. The public baths were great; although the male baths had two bath options and a sauna, while the female only had one small bath. The free tea and coffee facilities were good and the nightly free drink was a nice touch. There was even a reading nook to use. Free laundry service as well.
It appears that most of the money spent on the hotel went into the lobby and downstairs shared facilities. The carpet and wallpaper throughout the rest of the hotel was stained and peeling. The bed in our room was very firm; our room was also quite small (we only had one hiking backpack and two smaller backpacks and it was a tight fit for luggage, not sure how two suitcases would fit). The room fittings were quite dated and did not look like the pictures on the website. Another issue was the smoking room downstairs which, when opened, let smoke throughout the entire communal lounge/dining area.
